Wiggle Waggle Walk for Woods
Saturday, October 23, 2010

Plans are already in the works for this year’s walk, so stay tuned for more details in the next edition of Shelter Tails and mark your calendars for Saturday, October 23rd, 2010.

As the sun rose on the morning of October 24th, over 300 local K9s snatched up their leashes and converged on Laguna Lake Park in San Luis Obispo in support of Woods Humane Society’s 17th Annual Wiggle Waggle Walk for Woods.

Wiggle Waggle is the shelter’s largest annual fundraising walk, and thanks to the support of our friends, we raised over $35,000 to benefit the animals that call our shelter home.

Wiggle Waggle 2009 was dedicated in honor and memory of Ms. Frances Chang, a WHS Volunteer who passed away in 2008. Frances’s sister Kristie and adopted Woods dog Macey helped to lead the one mile walk.

Wiggle Waggle is one of the largest K9 events on the Central Coast, and last year’s walk was made possible by generous sponsorships from The Frances Chang Seeds of Love Foundation, Lemos Feed & Pet Supply, Central Coast Pet ER, Canidae Pet Food, Charter Media, and American General Media.

Our 2009 top pledge-earning team, and Woods Cup Recipient was the Shaggy Waggies, raising a team total of $6,000.

Woods Humane Society thanks all of our pledge earners, walkers, teams, and non-profit fundraising paw-tners. We also give a round of a-paws to, KSBY Action News, Teah Anders and the West Coast Freestyle Group, Atascadero State Hospital K9 Units, SLO County Deputy Sheriff Barger and his K9 partner Deputy Jake (2002-2010).

We are happy to have the participation of local K9 groups to present demonstrations on canine handling and obedience. If you think your dog has what it takes, you might be interested in participating in some of our K9 Contests including:

1 Mile Dog Walk

All of the proceeds that are generated through our annual fundraising pledge walk goes directly to the humane sheltering and ongoing veterinary care of the animals at Woods Humane Society. Only 5% of the financial resources to keep our shelter operational are generated through the fees that we charge, the other 95% is generated by your support. We have recently celebrated the 54th Anniversary of Woods, and we need your help in order to continue providing premier care for the animals in our charge.

Individual Wiggle Waggle Walkers compete for top pledge earner prizes while walking teams compete for top team earner prizes and the coveted Woods Cup trophy! Online registration and fundraising pages are located at www.firstgiving.com/whs. Please contact Woods Humane Society at 805-543-9316 x19 or email skragenbrink@woodshumane.org for general Wiggle Waggle information, Event Sponsorship Opportunities, Team Registration Information, or to make general donations.

Wiggle Waggle is a dynamic event and developments are ongoing. Make sure to check back frequently for event updates and prize additions. Become a fan of Woods Humane Society on Facebook to stay current with shelter and event updates.
